The First Renovation Hunters Project
The Outdoor Channel’s newest show – Renovation Hunters – is the first of its kind on the network. And in order to start the show off with a bang, the series needed a property that could test their team, push them to their limit and show what they could do — and boy, did they find it!
Before filming, Host Hal Shaffer took a trip with general contractor, Kevin Tarkovich, to see the property. Walking through the front door, Kevin knew the project would be a handful. There was no heat, no working bathroom and water spraying out of the sink. Plus, a leak from the kitchen into the walkway froze over, creating a one-of-a-kind in-house ice rink.
Through all of that, though, Hal assured Kevin, “You can do this. Take all the time you need — as long as it’s done in eight days!” The rest, folks, is history. Welcome, Project Hyannis!
Products Used in Project Hyannis
Baird’s natural hardwood products brightened the dark property while elevating the aesthetic and maintaining the classic look of the interior.
The fine hardwood products used in the first build of Renovation Hunters were key to elevating the look while providing stability to the structure. Hardwood installs were used throughout the entire cabin for functionality and to reinforce the interior design style.
Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods provided knotty ponderosa pine tongue-and-groove barn siding, poplar shiplap interior siding, primed poplar and red oak S4S lumber, birch plywood, red oak mouldings and a workbench top.
Hyannis Property Gets an Upgrade
The cabin in Hyannis, Nebraska is the only project where the show bought the property instead of a family. Because of this, they didn’t know what story they’d tell with the build. That is, until they met the people of the town.
As Hal described, the town was “two hours away from nowhere, three hours away from somewhere,” making it one of the most unique places they had the pleasure of visiting. The people of Hyannis knew the risk Renovation Hunters took by using this cabin as their first project, which made them even more appreciative. As it turned out, the cabin was the most visible property throughout the entire town (located right off the town’s main street). The people of Hyannis welcomed its makeover; new landscaping, updated exterior and much much more!
While the remaining projects in the first season of Renovation Hunters helped a family in need, the Hyannis home renovation helped an entire town by turning an eyesore into a beautiful piece of real estate they were proud to show off.
