Hiwassee Log Cabin Restoration:
Season 2 of Renovation Hunters

Season 2 of the Outdoor Channel’s popular program – Renovation Hunters – started with a bang, taking the show’s personalities in Hiwassee, VA for the first build of Season 2.  This challenging project featured a log cabin restoration that tested the DIY skills of each team member.

Renovation Hunters Season 3 is Here!

Decision Behind Choosing a Log Home Restoration Project

In the first restoration project of Season 2, we took on a centuries-old cabin nestled in the heart of a local family’s Blue Spring Farm property.  Why the name, you ask?  Well, the farm and this particular log home restoration project are adjacent to a stunning spring with blue, crystal-clear water and a peaceful setting to sit and appreciate the view!

In addition to the potential of the renovation itself, one of the Hiwassee log home owners is a cancer survivor hoping to use the property as a retreat for others battling the disease. Long story short, choosing this family (and their log home repair) was an easy decision for the Renovation Hunters team!

Believe it or not, this wasn’t the first time Renovation Hunters completed restoration services on an antique log cabin. But, unlike the Season 1 Critz, VA log cabin repair (which was only about an hour down the road), this property needed a significant amount of TLC: addressing a history of termites, water damage, a need for exterior log home care (including addressing and painting the log home chinking), pest infiltration and more

Baird Products Used In The Log Cabin Restoration

See how Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods played a significant role in delivering updated rustic charm to the Hiwassee log house.

While the Hiwassee property’s log building reno required significant repair and more overall living space, it was also essential to maintain the rustic charm while delivering much-needed updates.  These updates also made the family’s log home maintenance significantly easier!

Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods pushed the redesign forward by providing numerous products, including red oak countertops (made from our workbench tops), red oak S4S, character grade white oak flooring, walnut S2S lumber and rustic poplar casing for doors and windows.
