The This Old House 2019 Idea House, located in New Canaan, Connecticut, transforms a forgotten Greek Revival into a stunning family home with the latest amenities (and style that spans the test of time).
Homeowners look to This Old House, America’s favorite home renovation brand, for ideas, and the 2019 Idea House, which was the culmination of the PBS Show’s 40th season, certainly didn’t disappoint.
Located in the downtown historic district of Fairfield County, Connecticut, the remodel project was spearheaded by the award-winning builder KARP Associates, Inc., who partnered with architectural powerhouse CAH Architecture & Design, along with America’s top home building and decorating brands (including Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods).

This fifth edition Idea House project brought considerable satisfaction to everyone involved, along with wondrous anticipation for the 2020 project.

Products Used in the TOH 2019 Idea House
Baird Brothers was featured throughout the home with a variety of fine hardwood products. A white oak theme brought together the rustic yet sophisticated character of the home— from quarter sawn flooring throughout the house and a shiplap accent wall in the new master bedroom to the solid three-panel white oak interior doors. A specially-designed herringbone white oak entry floor adds drama to the entryway, while custom poplar baseboard moulding, along with window and door trim, enhance visual interest to the interior décor on the ground floor and the completely redesigned upstairs.
The New Canaan Idea House restores the original facade of the home to preserve its history and charm while adding an open kitchen, vaulted ceilings, mudroom, game room, and home office, as well as a workshop and gym in the basement.
